Translate Surface Unquote

We will look at techniques of translation and discuss the potentialites of poetic translation. We will consider what to do when minor accords meet cordes. What are the constraints, what unravels at this juncture. Students should bring a translation of the prose poem “Les Ponts,” from Illuminations by Arthur Rimbaud. This can be their own translation or a found translation. Bring enough copies for all workshop members. Most libraries should have a copy of Illuminations. Alternatively, this poem can be found online, on Gallica (http://visualiseur.bnf.fr/CadresFenetre?O=NUMM-101484&M=tdm).
Other required materials: laptop, notebooks, dictionaries… your writing tools.
