A close examination of the life, times & writings of the major figures, and a survey of the minor ones. Ginsberg, Burroughs, Kerouac, Corso, Ferlinghetti, Gysin, di Prima, Whalen, Snyder, John Clellon Holmes, Ray Bremser, Herbert Huncke, Peter Orlovsky, Ed Sanders and Anne Waldman.
Required Text: The New American Poetry, Donald M. Allen, ed., currently out of print. For those unable to locate a copy, a reference library will be made available to students by the instructor.
